About The Onofiok Luke Legislative Internship Programme (TOLLIP)


 INTRODUCTION
The Onofiok Luke Legislative Internship Programme (TOLLIP) is a pioneer attempt at simplifying the workings of the legislature and drawing higher levels of public participation in and awareness about the legislature. This pioneer scheme which is to be powered by the Member Representing Nsit Ubium in the Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Onofiok Luke, will train the participants in areas like legislative drafting, debates, leadership development, oversight among others.
The legislative internship programme will serve as a platform for leadership training for the next generation and to prepare them for future leadership engagements.
CALL FOR APPLICATION FOR 2012/2013 BATCH A
The internship is open to recent graduates or final year undergraduates of reputable tertiary institutions from any field of study, who have an interest in and desire knowledge of the legislative process, while applicants with academic background in Law, political science, Economics and humanities have comparative advantage. Graduate applicants should have attained at least a second class lower division, while the undergraduates must have attained at least 3.0 Grade Point Average, in the semester preceding the application.

INTERNS
The programme which will run for three months per batch, will have participants from the following categories
Nsit Ubium state constituency 5 interns
Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District ` 1 intern
Uyo senatorial District (NSit Ubium excluded) 1 intern
Eket Senatorial District 1 intern
Voluntary Youth Organizations
Red Cross 1 intern
Boys Brigade 1 intern
Boys Scout 1 intern
Girls Guide 1 intern
Akwa Ibom representatives @ Nigerian youth Parliament 3 interns
Total 15 interns

Selection
A highly competitive process will be put in place to select interns. The applicants are to pick up the application form, complete and return, at the office of the Honourable Member representing Nsit Ubium at the Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly complex or the Constituency Office at Ikot Edibon, attach a copy of their Curriculum Vitae and an essay (not more than 1000 words) on the topic “Akwa Ibom State: Our heritage, achievements and potentials”. The closing date for the submission of completed forms shall be Monday 20th August, 2012.

Scope
Successful applicants will undergo a week orientation, where they will attend workshops, seminars, symposia and will interact with great academics, past and current legislators (at state and national levels), motivational speakers and finance experts.

Benefits
In addition to the knowledge to be gained by the interns, they will be entitled to a reasonable stipend throughout the duration of the internship.

  1. Good day sir,i will like to commend you for your effort in putting together this brilliant initiative which seeks to drive human capital development. However, besides the reseanable stipend, what other benefit is attached to the internship program?e.g, employment,etc
    Secondly, why is the slot so limited? dont you think it could be politicised? I suggest that you should expand the space for more participation.Thanks
