African Regional Workshop for Widows to hold in Liberia


Against the background of prevailing victimization and abuse of fundamental human right of women and widows, the Widows Right Action Network (WRAN) has undertaken the fight for the improvement of the lives of widows in our society. WRAN, according to, Mr Idongesit Essien the media consultant has been positioned negotiate for widow’s right, educate the general public and seek protecting laws for widows, widows and their orphaned children.
To begin this journey, among other laudable programmes of the organization, WRAN will be leading a large contingent of widows, women, lawmakers and social advocate to the first ever workshop on awareness creation and advocacy for the right of widows.
A statement from the media boss indicates that the workshop will hold in Monrovia, Liberia from November 4-9, 2012. Tagged; Free the Widow, Educate and Take Action, the workshop will have international speakers like Dr Ishanda James from Florida, USA, Mrs Pamela Reeves, Dr Kaka El-Yakub , Dr Gloria Bassey, Mrs Blessing Isonguyo among others. From information available to the news desk, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and the Nigerian Ambassador to Liberia are expected to grace the opening ceremony of the workshop. The organizers say they are still working on having the important women in Liberia attend the opening ceremony, a situation they were so sure of.
In a brief session with Mr Essien, he described Evangelist Angela Effiong, the Founding President of Widows Right Action Network (WRAN) as having the focus and determination to lead the cause for the total liberation of the African widow. He used the opportunity to invite media executives and the general public to the Special Media Launch ahead of the Liberian summit.  Roll call of dignitaries for the media launch includes The Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Mrs. Helen Ikpe Ukpabio, Member representing Nsit Ubium state Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. Hon Barr. Onofiok Luke, Ukoh Umoh, the Publisher of Community Pulse Newspapers.
Mr Essien promised that the media launch holding on Friday October 5, 2012 will be brief event lasting not more than 60 minutes in duration. “It shall be compact and impactful and we don’t intend to keep people longer than necessary”, he stated.
