Contestants arrive Uyo as African Village Queen pageant opens camp

Contestants from over 24 African countries have started arriving Uyo as African Village Queen Pageant Season 2 opens camp this Sunday 21^st October 2012! African Village Queen Pageant organized by De-Havilla Development and proudly endorsed by the Federal Ministry of Tourism, Culture and National Re-orientation, Abuja is an event which is the unifying feature of our diverse and rich cultural heritage will showcase visual arts and cultural entertainment from participating African countries.

Last year, contestants were camped at Usaka – a peaceful settlement in Obot Akara Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State where they were taught about morals and African values. They were also treated to African games and some learnt how to prepare local dishes while in the camp! The contestants will be camped this year in Obot Itu, a fishing settlement located in Itu Local Government Area.

This year’s edition promises to be bigger and better! “We’ll show our ladies how best they could dress and behave as well-cultured African ladies. If they have to borrow anything from the western culture, it should be that basic ingredient of national development, proper home management and the real essence of being a woman” said Otobong Udofia the coordinator of this event.

“Already, contestants from Cameroon, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Ghana, South Africa and Tunisia are in Uyo for this event and we’re still expecting more between today and Sunday” Said Chris – the Project Manager of this event.

This event, apart from creating opportunities for investors and business organizations to advertise  their goods and services, will also provide a platform to source for talent in music, dance, arts, and literature as well as other areas of creative endeavors  with  a view to harnessing and tapping such for  our process of international integration and development. 

This year’s edition will also expose numerous tourist attractions (sites) like the historical Mary Slessor Memorial Park, Usaka Beach, Ibeno Beach, the slave Trade Route, Bridge of No Return, State Museum, National Museum, Oron Beach/ Waterfront, Uta Ewa Beach, Ibom Plaza, Rolling Hills, Ibaka Beach, 1929 Women Riot Centre as well as Raffia Crafts Gallery/Souvenir Market, among others that abound in the country.

African Village Queen Pageant (AVQP) Season2 will be a viable outlet for corporate and individual investors in view of the present disposition of Nigeria and other African Countries as an emerging tourist and economic destination in the world as the event will parade would-be Queen from other countries with their Ambassadors in attendance.
