Important message for University of Uyo students

DIRECTORATE OF INFORMATION (SUG) UNIUYO
PRESS RELEASE
The attention of the Students' Union Government has been brought to the on-going qualms about an incident which supposedly occurred in the morning of Sunday, September 21, 2014 at the M2 Hostel located at the Annex campus of the University. it is therefore pertinent to make the following known to all students at this point in time:

* The story that two hand grenades were discovered in one of the rooms at the M2 hostel is true.
* The student in whose bag these grenades were found has since been taken in by the Police for interrogation and investigations are on-going.
* Students have no cause to be afraid as security has been beefed up in the hostel and the school generally to forestall any further occurrence of such.
* No life or property was lost.
* The date of resumption for second semester of the 2013/14 academic session which is Monday Sept 29, 2014 still remains as it is.
The Students' Union wishes to commend the PCI and other security outfit in the school for their prompt response and action upon the discovery of these detonators and also assures all students that the University of Uyo continues to be safe for learning and other academic activities.
We wish to implore all students to abide and adhere to all that the security officials in school ask of them as all these people do are for the safety of the lives and properties of all members of the school community.
We also urge you all to be always security conscious and report any odd person or activity in and around the school to the security officers nearest to you for prompt action.
God bless you all even as I welcome you to another successful semester in school.
Signed
Comr. Godwin Antai
