The S.A
to Akwa Ibom State Governor on Students Matters, Miss Otobong Akpan is causing
a major crisis in the Akwa Ibom State branch of the Joint Campus
Committee (JCC), a body under National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
Information
at our disposal has it that the Governor’s Special Assistant who is fondly
called Aquilla has sworn that over
her dead body will the recently inaugurated exco be allowed to operate. Findings
reveal that she has finished plans to constitute and inaugurate a parallel exco
to the real JCC state exco headed by Akwaowo Clifford Ukpong.
We
learnt that she had wanted to stay on in the position as JCC chairman in the
state even after her one year tenure had elapsed, but she was forced to vacate
the office. After vacating the office, according our multiple sources, she
wanted installing her stooge as her successor, but such efforts were rebuffed
and Akwaowo Clifford emerged against her wishes.
It
is understood that she has boasted that she has several connections in
government and will make sure Akwaowo is not recognized as the chairman of the
students’ body. It is understood that she has made frantic efforts to rubbish
the legitimacy of the Akwaowo led administration by luring those who were
hitherto loyal to his (Akwaowo’s exco) with promises of giving them
appointments in Governor Udom Emmanuel’s government and councillorship
positions in their local governments.
Even
after serving out her tenure as the JCC chairman, findings reveal that Aquilla
has refused to hand over the students body’s official bus to new exco.
