Gov. Akpabio redeems 50 million Naira pledge to Nollywood


Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State had earlier in the year pledged to donate N50m to Nollywood. It was on the occasion of the celebration of Nollywood at 20. Today, Mr. Zik Zulu Okafaro, National President, Association of Movie Producers led few Nollywood practitioners to Government House, Uyo on a courtesy call where the generous governor redeemed his pledge. UNIUYO Riot: Names and personal details of 45 arrested persons


www.CONNOISSEURng.com has scooped the list of 45 persons arrested by police during and after the University of Uyo uprising where property worth millions of Naira were lost and one student shot dead. All but 2 of those arrested are students. They have been transferred from police cell to Uyo prison and have been charged to court on a 5 count charge including arson, murder, malicious damage and stealing. Akwa Ibom State Chief Judge, Justice Idongesit Ntem Isua is the presiding judge. Below is the list of those arrested.

This story was suppose to come out today as the banner headline of Sunday Pulse but #MyOgaAtTheTop who because his affiliation with those who are affected in the story stopped the printing of the paper midway. Akpan is a well known political figure in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria while Frank Lampard is an England football star who laces his boots for Chelsea FC. Happy birthday to them.

NANS Senate President, 3 others die in auto crash on their way to intervene in UNIUYO riot


Senate President, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Donald Onukaogu, and four others died in a car crash on their way to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State to intervene on the current university of uyo students uprising. It is learnt they died along Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene Road. They travelled yesternight in order to reach the Akwa Ibom State capital for their intervention this morning, but unfortunately met their untimely death. I am yet to place my fingers on other occupants of the vehicle who also lost their lives. May their souls rest in peace. #DevelopingStory

Composer of the national anthem, Pa Odiase is dead

Pa Benedict Odiase (MON), the composer of the Nigerian National Anthem, ‘Arise O Compatriots’ in May 1978 is dead. Pa Benedict Odiase is said to have died last night in his sleep. Pa Odiase retired in 1992 as a Deputy Commissioner of Police after being the Director of Music with the Nigeria Police Band. Adieu!!!!

Photos: 3 students shot dead, VC’s office, security post burnt as UNIUYO students protest transportation fare


3 students have been confirmed dead in a peaceful protest which later turned violent at the University of Uyo. On Wednesday morning, students of Engineering and Science Faculties of the varsity embarked on a peaceful over the decision of the school management that they should pay N200 everyday in order for them to be ferried from the town campus to the permanent site (Nsukara Offot) via the school bus. The students who protested said the transport fare has already been included in their second semester school fees, hence embarked on the protest by closing all the gates and entrances at the town campus.
