Enyimba dig deep to shake off hard-fighting Akwa United



Nigeria Professional Football League champions, Enyimba, were made to work their socks off at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt by Akwa United in a Matchday 33 fixture as they had to turn to second half substitute, Ikechukwu Ibenegbu, to score the winner late in the game to earn a 2-1 win.
Mfon Udoh scored the opening goal before Hassan Babangida netted the equalizer for Akwa United just before the break to set up a finely-poised second half.

Coach of the National U-23 team, Samson Siasia is certainly not new to Nigerian football. His latest foray where he led the team to win Nigeria’s only medal at the just concluded Rio 2016 Olympic Games was not the first time the former Super Eagles striker will be on the saddle. Before now he had coached the same team to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games where he won the silver medal after another silver medal in Under 20 World Cup in Holland. In this last assignment for the Rio Olympics, the sports minister Solomon Dalung called him names for taking the team to Atlanta for preparation. Before then the same minister publicly condemned him for dropping some players who played in the African Championship in Senegal. The minister wanted all those who played in Senegal to be in Rio their fitness level or injuries notwithstanding. The Nigeria Football Federation owed him salaries running up to five months. Stella Oduah's 28 year old son dies in Abuja Hospital

Former Minister of Aviation and now senator, Stella Oduah, yesterday lost her son. According to family sources, the 28 year old man died after a brief illness. He has been on admission at a private hospital in Abuja for an undisclosed ailment. May his soul rest in peace Amen.

I’m not in a hurry to die - Gov. Okorocha



Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo, has said that he is not in a hurry to die but live to complete his assignment for the people of the state. Okorocha made the statement on Thursday while reacting to rumours of his ill health shortly after arriving Sam Mbakwe Airport Owerri, from a foreign trip. Addressing a large crowd that gathered at the airport to welcome him, Okorocha described the rumours of his health condition as `false.’

Photos: 'Dead' retired Air Marshal, Nsikak Eduok is 'back to life'



Air Marshal Nsikak Eduok (Retd) who was pronounced dead by various newspapers is back to live. The prominent Akwa Ibom retired Nigerian Airforce chief was rumoured to be dead since last year, but photos have shown is still alive. Photos here show him in a group photograph with members of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio upon his return from a medical trip outside the country. First, it was Mrs Ekaete-Unoma Akpabio, now Nsikak Eduok. Sheriff rejects another judgment sacking him as PDP chair



Disputed National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff has rejected a court judgment sacking him as party chairman. A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court sitting in Kubwa, Abuja, had on Wednesday nullified his hold on the party’s chairmanship and declared his appointment as party chair null and void. But in a statement on Thursday, Sheriff said the judgment did not affect him in any way. He however said he had already appealed the judgment and filed for a stay of execution.

Okezie Ikpeazu: A/Court blasts Okon Abang, voids judgment

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has voided the judgment that sacked Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State from office.  Okezie Ikpeazu The court, in a unanimous decision, a five-man panel of Justices of the appellate court, vacated the June 27 verdict of Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The court held that the controversial Justice Abang erred in law and occasioned a miscarriage of justice against Ikpeazu.

THE INK Newspaper can authoritatively report that the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Investment Barr Emmanuel Enoidem has gotten the backing of Governor Udom Emmanuel and other stakeholders of the state to vie for the position of the National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party which has been zoned to Akwa Ibom State. Barr Enoidem has last evening believed to have resigned from the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council to enable him clinch that position.

Former FIFA President dies



Former FIFA president Joao Havelange has died. He died in Rio de Janeiro at the age of 100. Full names Jean-Marie Faustin Godefroid "João" de, Havelange was born on 8 May 1916. He was a Brazilian lawyer, businessman, and former athlete who served as the 7th President of FIFA, from 1974 to 1998. His tenure as President is the second longest in FIFA's history, behind only that of Jules Rimet. He received the title of Honorary President when leaving office, but resigned in April 2013. He succeeded Stanley Rous and was succeeded by Sepp Blatter.

I am qualified to be Nigeria’s president, says Sheriff

Ali Modu Sheriff, factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says he is qualified to be the president of Nigeria. Speaking on Sunday when he appeared on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, Sheriff said he has paid his dues in politics and can serve in the highest office in the land. He described himself as a highly principled individual, saying he believes in democracy and the rule of law. The former Borno state governor also denied ever promising to give the vice-president’s ticket to anyone.

The Nigerian Army has declared three persons wanted in connection with the latest video of the abducted Chibok girls released by Boko Haram on Sunday. Spokesman for the Army, Colonel Sani Usman, said that the suspects, Ahmed Salkida, (Ambassador) Ahmed U. Bolori and Aisha Wakil, had information on the conditions and the exact location of these girls.

Super Eagles now ranked 67th in the world



The Super Eagles of Nigeria is now ranked 67th in the world by FIFA. In July they were ranked 70th in the world and 17th in the continent of Africa.
