Journalists fight over Gov. Akpabio’s N5m

A brawl broke out on Saturday, 21 July 2012 when journalists involved in a scuffle for N5m given to the state branch of NUJ to share to its members who were present during a press conference organized by the state government.
The Akwa Ibom State Government had organized the press parley to clear the air on the brewing issue of the 76 oil wells awarded to Akwa Ibom at the expense of Cross River State by the Supreme Court. Over 300 journalists (and non-journalists alike) thronged the new banquet hall, venue for the event. Some were there since morning, but the press conference started at about 9pm.

Fire guts Power City Int’l

Fire gutted a section of Power City Int’l, arguably the biggest church edifice in Akwa Ibom State on Sunday. Connoisseur.com learnt that the fire started from the office of the senior pastor, Dr. Abel Damina, at about some minutes to 12 O’clock with the 2nd service just few minutes of being ended.

But on sighting smoke from the office of the pastor, the choristers had to take to their heels and every other person, including Dr. Damina, Mr. Umanah Okon Umanah (secretary to Akwa Ibom State government), and Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem (Commissioner for Housing and Urban Renewal followed suit.

Gov. Akpabio fails to hold back tears, as Commissioner for Youth & Sports Oyong Asuquo dies in auto crash


Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State, today failed to control his emotions as he shed tears over the passage of his former Youth and Sports Commissioner, Oyong Asuquo. The governor who paid a condolence visit to the family of the deceased, wasn’t himself and was guided by his security aides as he saw the body of Oyong lie lifeless at his Ewet Housing residence.
Pastor Oyong Asuquo who was until the dissolution of the state executive council by Gov. Akpabio the Commissioner for Youth and Sports died this morning in an auto crash while on his way on his way back from Oron.
Connoisseur.com gathered that Oyong went to attend a crucial political meeting at Oron ahead today’s PDP LG Chairmanship nomination but on his way back to Uyo at about 4am, his car (which he reportedly drove alone) hit a culvert along Uyo-Oron Road (Airport road) and died on the spot as a result of injuries from the accident.
