The attention
of Connoisseur.com has been drawn to
a story making the rounds that popular Nigerian music act, D’banj has been shot
dead in the US by 3 unknown gunmen.
We want
to state categorically that this story published by an acclaimed social
networking site, Naijapals.com yesterday was first published as an AprilFool
prank on the 1st of April, 2012 by www.connoisseurng.blogspot.com.
You can READ it here if you didn’t.
As it
is the custom with some top websites across the world, ranging from goal.com to
notjustok.com, we decided to “cook” an April Fool story for our teeming
readers.
The story
had died off one week after its publication on the blog and the readers knew
that it was an AprilFool because it was clearly written at the end of the story.
Junk
blogs who know very little about the ethics of journalism which also harbours
blogging culled the story when they knew it was a seasonal stuff.
It was
therefore surprising and appalling that Naijapals could publish the same story
two months after and mischievously expunged the paragraph we stated that it
was an AprilFool.
We want
to state here that it was a deliberate ploy by @Naijapals and other blogs who
published the story afterwards to attract unnecessary traffic to their sites.
This,
we consider as mischievous and we condemn the disgusting, misinforming and
misleading act in totality and in strong terms.
The said
story trended on twitter and unsuspecting people started and are still sending
broadcast messages on BBM to that effect.
We are
happy that D’banj used his twitter handler to dispel the rumour which was
caused by the viral story.
We hereby
call on Naijapals and other blogs which carried the “delayed” AprilFool story
to grow beyond living in junkness.
We tender
our apologies to D’banj and his team on the damage and inconveniences the story
might have caused him/them. We first wrote and published with genuine reasons
and intentions.
