Akwa Ibom @ 25: Media Celebrities beat Cafenol, Armstrong, Mista Xto in novelty football match


Media celebrities on Thursday, 20th September, 2012 defeated Entertainment Stars in a novelty football match played to celebrate Akwa Ibom at 25. The match which took place at Government Technical College, Ewet, Uyo recorded a goalless draw at the end of an entertaining 90 minutes. The game however went straight into penalty shoot out. Captain of the entertainment stars, actor Moses Armstrong and gospel music act Godfada lost their kicks while Pastor Idy James, Clifford Thomas, Essien Ndueso, and Promise Etim all scored from the spot to give the media celebs a victory.
Speaking before taking the kick-off, Hon. Onofiok Luke, member representing Nsit Ubium State Constituency said he was excited seeing the players, most of them who are his friends slugging it out in the field of play. Hon. Luke said he was excited about the initiative and said the match was the one and only match organized to celebrate the state at 25 and it is part of the activities marking the state’s silver jubilee.
The Hon. Commissioner for Information who served as the Guest of Honour said he was excited to see media practitioners and entertainment stars honour the state in an exciting and fun-filled manner. He said was honoured to identify with the initiative of E-101magazine.
Other dignitaries in attendance included Mr. Samuel Frank, S.A to the Governor on Political and Legislative Affairs who represented the Secretary to the State Government,  Obong Umana Okon Umana, international gospel star Pat Akpabio, members of the political class, media practitioners and entertainment celebrities.
The match was organized by South-South Nigeria’s first all entertainment/personality newsmagazine E-101 to add glamour, excitement, fun and entertainment to the celebrations of the state’s silver jubilee.
Meanwhile, the Editor-in-Chief of E-101magazine, Ifreke Nseowo who is also Nigeria’s Youngest Editor Ever has said there will be a rematch.
“There will be a rematch. The entertainers felt there were going to carry the day but unfortunately for them, they lost in the shootout. Mista Xto in particular has said the field was not okay, plus so many other complaints. After consulting my team, we have concluded that there will be a 2nd leg. Tagged: “Celebrity Showdown: The Rematch”, the novelty will be played on 1st October, 2012 to celebrate Nigeria at 53. This time, those who didn’t have the opportunity of taking part in the last one will be opportuned to do so. It’s going to be fun all the way”, said Nseowo.
