Ronaldo becomes first sportsman to get over 50m Facebook ‘Likes’, thanks fans

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first sportsman to receive over 50 million 'Likes' on social networking site Facebook.
The figure is 10 million more than his Barcelona rival Lionel Messi and represents 5% of all Facebook fans.
The reason that Ronaldo seems more popular than his nemesis Messi could have something to do with the Argentine star using the name 'Leo' on his fan page instead of the frequently used 'Lionel'
Other football players in Facebook's top 10 list include David Beckham (third with over 21 million Likes), Ronaldo's teammate Kaka (fourth) and Barcelona's Andreas Iniesta (seventh).
The rest of the sporting list is made up of non-footballers including basketball icons Lebron James (fifth), Michale Jordan (sixth) and Dwayne Wade (eighth).
Cricket batsman Sachin Tendulkar is ninth and WWE wrestler John Cena is tenth.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo is on course to win his 100th international cap when Portugal play Northern Ireland in a World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.
He thanked his fans for the feat. He posted this on his facebook timeline:
Reaching 50.000.000 likes is unbelievable ...I want to thank you, you you, you and everyone who have been supporting me all these years. I really want us to keep sharing all the good moments together - and the best is still to come. THANK YOU ALL.
