Who owns Planet 101.1FM?

I’ve heard so many gists on the ownership this station. Since my last post about the test transmission of Planet FM 101.1 which happens to be the first privately owned radio station in Akwa Ibom State, I’ve had several calls. The callers always wanted to know who owns the station.

Now, the gist going viral in town is that it is E-101Magazine group that owns the Uruan based radio station. Could that be true? Hmmmm…Others have actually mailed me that it is owned by Commissioner for Information, Mr. Aniekan Umanah. The name of Mr. Aniekpeno Mkpanang, the Director of Protocol, Akwa Ibom State has also popped up while Mr. Michael Bush is also rumoured to be the man behind the new broadcast heavyweight simply because he is from Uruan where the station is located and that he has always hinted that he will run a private radio station.
This one sounds true. I’m told a certain engineer, Tony Afia whose mansion is opposite the premises of the radio station is said to be owner. Who do you think owns the wave making Planet FM? Please drop your comments.

  1. When i made enquiries i was told that Planet fm is owned by a business man who is based overseas and who is from Ibiaku uruan in uruan lga.

Mr Bush in response to a question about the ownership of the station on 11th may 2013 on facebook had this to say:

"BUSH HOUSE NIGERIA uses this medium to formally announce that neither its CEO, Akparawa Michael BUSH, nor itself has any stake in the new Station. While we know and celebrate with TAF & Associates, owners of the Station, we hope this puts paid to all the talk of our involvement or ownership. May PLANET FM come to stay, IJN! ...MGT" https://www.facebook.com/bushhousenigeria

I guess when the station starts full commercial broadcast the ownership structure will be released to the public domain. Until then, the speculations will continue and you and i can even say that we are the owners of the station...lol

  2. Ha!ha!ha! This is very typical of us. Why border about who owns it? Why not just enjoy what its got to offer. For me i'm contented with just enjoying something i have missed since i left Lagos. Right now i'm feeling like Lagos in Uyo. Nice one.
