Chelsea achieved a no-mean-feat yesterday after beating Bayern Munich to clinch the UEFA Champions League trophy for the first time in history.

There is new name on the UEFA Champions League trophy after Chelsea FC's victory against FC Bayern München made them the first maiden winners since Borussia Dortmund in 1997.

Chelsea are the tenth club to have won the trophy once and the 22nd overall in the pantheon of European Cup winners. In beating Bayern the Londoners became the first new winners of the trophy since the 1990s when, coincidentally, Munich provided the stage for the triumphs of Olympique de Marseille (1993) and Dortmund (1997) – albeit at the Olympiastadion, Bayern's former home.
