Today, August 1^st is the birthday of Nigerian football legend, Kanu Nwankwo and Ghana movie star, Van Vicker. Kanu was born on 1 August 1976. He captained Nigerian’s Dream Team 1 to Olympic victory in Atlanta ’96. He was also a member of the Nigerian national team for 16 years from 1994 until 2010.

Recently married actress, Funke Akindele will alongside EME boss, Banky W, soccer star Kanu Nwankwo and Yaw of Wazobia FM light Nigeria’s torch at the forthcoming Olympic Games on July 1.

There is new name on the UEFA Champions League trophy after Chelsea FC's victory against FC Bayern München made them the first maiden winners since Borussia Dortmund in 1997.

Chelsea are the tenth club to have won the trophy once and the 22nd overall in the pantheon of European Cup winners. In beating Bayern the Londoners became the first new winners of the trophy since the 1990s when, coincidentally, Munich provided the stage for the triumphs of Olympique de Marseille (1993) and Dortmund (1997) – albeit at the Olympiastadion, Bayern's former home.
