MI, Wizkid, perform at the final of Nigerian Idol Season 2 (photos)

 The final of Nigerian Idol Season 2 took place last weekend with Mercy Chinwo taking the coveted prize worth N7.5m, a recording contract and a brand new SUV. She beat Joe Blue to become the second female in succession to emerge the winner of the music reality TV show. There were performances from MI, Wizkid, and Yeka Onka. Mercy beats Akwa Ibom’s Joe Blue to win Nigerian Idol Season 2

The contest has been running for about 5 months now, and today Chinwo Nnenda Mercy can rock the crown as the 2012 Nigerian Idol Winner.

She beat out Joe Blue (Joe Anthony Ekpo) after an exciting night that featured 3 songs each. The show finale featured performances from WizKid, W4 & Chuddy K.

Mercy will walk away with $100,000, a recording contract and an SUV.

Nigerian Idol unveils top 3 contestants

Last weekend, she delivered a strong version of Alicia Keys’ song to the delight of the audience. She followed up her first performance with Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’; dramatising her set with a well-choreographed dance routine. But Najite but failed to get enough votes from the audience to keep her in the competition. And the judges showed her the exit doors.

Fan favourite Mercy had emerged as the contestant with the highest vote, followed by the Stephen Onoche and Joe blue, the favourite male contestant.

So it’s now down to just three final contestants – Mercy, Stephen and Joe Blue! We can’t wait to find out who walks away with the big prize!
