Happy birthday Mr. Ibu, Eve Esin and Abasiama Etukakpan


Today, 17th October is the birthday of Nollywood stars John Okafor (Mr. Ibu), Eve Esin and radio presenter, Abasiama Etukakpan. John Okafor popularly known as Mr Ibu was born October 17, 1960. He is an indigene of Umunekwu village in Eziokwe, Nkanu Local Government Area of Enugu State. Mr Ibu has 7 siblings (4 male and 3 female) sadly lost his father in 1975. He is a graduate of Mass Communication from the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu. He got his stage from the movie Mr Ibu in 2004 where he played the lead role. He became a household name after that movie. Mr Ibu is unarguably one of Nigeria’s most talented comic characters in Nollywood.

Phone Swap, Ime Bishop Umoh win big at Nollywood Movies Awards 2013 + full list of winners


Nollywood comic act, Ime Bishop Umoh a.k.a Okon Lagos emerged one of the biggest winner at this year’s edition of Nollywood Movies Awards alongside blockbuster movie ‘Phone Swap’. In the award held on Saturday 12th October, 2013 at Intercontinental Hotel, Lagos and  hosted by Segun Arinze who stepped in for Basketmouth alongside  Dakore Akande, Ime Umoh won the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ and ‘Best Indigenous Actor’ for his role in ‘Udeme Mmi’. Phone Swap won in the Best Movie, Top Box Office Movie categories and the movie again won Yinka Edward a gong in the Best Cinematography category. Below is the list of all the winners…

Veteran Nollywood actor, Pete Eneh is dead

Information at the disposal of CONNOISSEUR has it that veteran Nollywood actor, Pete Eneh is dead. He died today at Park Lane hospital in Enugu. The actor, who lost one of his legs to amputation few days ago, has been battling with his infected leg after being unable to get proper medical attention when he first had pains in the leg. May his soul R.I.P.

Ramsey Nouah returns to Uyo for…


Former Nollywood ‘Loverboy’, Ramsey Nouah is in Uyo. Connoisseur spotted the fair-skinned actor at the Ministry of Works, Uyo on Monday in company of Ime ‘Okon Lagos’ Umoh. We learnt that Ramsey has been contacted to do some stuffs for the state ahead of the silver jubilee celebrations. The pix above shows him with the Publisher of Community Pulse newspaper – Uko Umoh. It could be recalled that another Nollywood star, Victor Osuagwu was in Uyo last week for the same reason. Connoisseur also learnt that it’s India-trained video director Eddie Brendan who is handling the shoot of the work.

Nollywood actress, Halima Abubakar is adding another year to her age to Today (June 12). She entered Nollywood in 2001 and has starred in 71 movies so far.
Halima Abubakar an Igbera, Kogi State born actress is from a family of six and the third of the family. She grew up in Kano State and attended Army Day Bukabu Secondary Education Bubabu barracks, Kano. She is a graduate of Sociology from Bayero University Kano. Halima Abubakar started acting at the age of 14 and was introduced into the industry in 1999, she finally got a role in 2001 featuring in a first movie titled “Rejected”. She was brought to limelight in the movie “Gangster Paradise” produced in 2001 and “Area Mama” in 2002.

Prophet TB Joshua says another male actor in Nollywood will die


Just some weeks ago, a prophecy made by top Nigerian prophet and head of Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN), Prophet TB Joshua on the death of an African leader came to pass.

Alas! It was the President of Malawi that was the victim.

The controversial man of God at his second service on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2012 warned the movie industry to pray against the death of a male actor.

Journalism student goes nude, says “I want to break into Nollywood”


A 300-level student of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, NIJ, Ogba, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, has gone nude to break into the big league of the glamorous Nigerian movie industry, known as Nollywood, saying she wants to be famous and rich. The 21-year-old student, Ms. Enitan Adeshola Okesanya, vowed to enter the industry with a big bang. “I think there is something missing in the industry and that’s me. I seriously think so. I have got this talent and passion inside me that I want to show to everybody out there. I want the world to see what I have got inside me, the God-given talent inside me, and I know that the media are actually waiting for that young person that will come and blow everybody away.

Africa Magic banned from screening Nollywood movies


I heard that Film and Video producers and Marketers’ Association of Nigeria (FVPMAN) with the consent of the various Nollywood guilds and associations has resolved to ban the airing of movies produced under their bodies on Nigerian televisions be it cable or terrestrial.
The associations declared that from May 1, 2012, movies released through the association’s channel shall be barred from all broadcast stations and movies signed on to the stations by its producers will not be distributed through their network.

Woman alleges actor Segun Arinze impregnated and abandoned her

Nollywood actor and out-going Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), president, Segun Arinze is currently embroiled in a paternity case that has left more questions than answers in its wake.
The popular actor is the subject of a vehement claim by a certain lady, Amara Obiefuna, who is in her late twenties. She insists the married actor is the father of her 9/10 year old child.
The actor was described as, ‘a very mean person’, by the lady, who then went on to say that, ‘he switched off the phone he gave me after our first meeting and I’ve also met him where we discussed the issue of the pregnancy’.
The pair allegedly met and had a brief fling during the filming of a movie in the city of Calabar in 2002.
