Breaking: INEC approves CPC, ACN, ANPP merger



PRESS STATEMENT

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the application by three political parties – the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) – to merge into one, to be known as the All Progressives Congress.

On considering the application, the Commission found that the applicant-parties have met all statutory requirements for the merger, and has accordingly granted their request.

Consequently, the Commission has approved the withdrawal of the individual certificates of the applicant-parties, and the issuance of a single certificate to the All Progressives Congress.

Mr. Emmanuel, a great Ibibio son until his appointment was an Executive Director on the board of Zenith Bank Plc from December 2006. Mr. Emmanuel also doubled as Non-Executive Director, Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) from 2008 to date and Director, Nigerian Interbank Settlement Systems (NIBBS) from 2009, Non-Executive Director, Zenith Bank, United Kingdom; Zenith Bank – Gambia; Zenith Bank – Sierra Leone; Zenith Insurance; Zenith Pensions and Custodian; Zenith Securities; Zenith Trustees and Zenith Registrars.

DJ Tim Westwood leaves BBC Radio


As part of a major schedule shakeup at U.K. Radio stations BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra, the legendary DJ Tim Westwood will be stepping down as host.Announced this past weekend, the 55-year-old DJ’s prominent Saturday night show, which has been pivotal in introducing American rap stars to a U.K. audience, will no longer be part of BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra’s respective radio programs due to a shuffle that will see new show slots for DJ Target, Charlie Sloth, MistaJam and Clara Amfo.
Westwood has been dropping bombs as the voice of hip-hop on BBC Radio for nearly two decades, getting his start with the station in 1994. Throughout his reign his reign, the DJ’s popular show saw notable appearances from acts like The Notorious B.I.G., Jay Z, Nas, Eminem, Kanye West, Snoop Lion, Kid Cudi, 2 Chainz and many more. A major component of the program was the freestyle segment, on which major artists would spit some bars in Westwood’s studio.
In a statement, the station’s Controller, Ben Cooper, said, “I’d like to thank Tim for the last 20 years on Radio 1. His passion for hip-hop is legendary. I wish him all the very best.”
Westwood’s former slot will be filled by DJ Charlie Sloth, who’s interview with J. Cole in May of last year sparked headlines, as the rapper announced that TLC would be featured on his new album.

Akpabio confirms SSG Umana’s sack, appoints Udom Emmanuel as his replacement


It is no more news that erstwhile Secretary to Akwa Ibom State Government, Obong Umana Okon Umana was relieved of his appointment on Monday (well, you can read it HERE if you didn’t), what is news is the appointment of a Zenith Bank director, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel as his successor. www.connoisseurNG.com learnt that Governor Akpabio while flying back to the state today from Abuja drove straight to Obong Umana’s Ewet Housing residence where they held a closed door meeting for about an hour. The outcome of the meeting is yet to be known. But meanwhile, this is the press release by the Akwa Ibom State government on Udom’s appointment.

Revealed!!! Why A’Ibom SSG, Umana was forced to resign


The Akwa Ibom State Secretary to state government, Mr,Umana Okon Umana has been forced to resign from office, in what appears to be an end of an era. Some men of the Nigeria Police Force who were apparently bent on forestalling any break down of law and order following the wielding of the big stick, were seen on Monday morning guarding the office of the SSG, preventing any form of movement in or out of the office. This came as a confirmation of an earlier report that Governor Godswill Akpabio has asked anyone wishing to contest election against his wish to resign before August this year.

Uniuyo crisis: NANS holds strategy session


The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has held an extraordinary executive council meeting in Abuja to address the challenges in Nigeria's educational sector. The meeting which was presided by NANS President Comrade Yinka Gbadebo was attended by national executive members and zonal coordinators.
Top on the agenda was the June 12 crises in university of Uyo. While briefing the house on the issue, the Vice President Special Duties of NANS, Comrade Ubon Marcus highlighted the remote and immediate causes of the unfortunate incident which claimed the life of Kingsley Udoette a 200 level student of that institution and that of the NANS Senate President Comrade Donald Onakaogu and four others who died on their way to intervene in the crises as well as the incarceration of 44 students in prison custody.
