Drama as Former PDP chair, Bello is taken into courtroom on wheelchair



Former acting national chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and a member of the party’s board of trustees (BoT), Dr. Haliru Bello, has been arraigned on a four-count charge of money laundering before a Federal High Court, Abuja on Tuesday.
Bello and his son, Abba Mohammed, were alleged to have diverted N300 million meant for the procurement of arms by the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.
Bello, however, caused a drama at the court when he arrived in ambulance. The ex-PDP chair was taken into the courtroom on a wheelchair. More photos after the cut…

PDP post convention dinner: a proof of FG's insensitivity to the plight of students - NANS


The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has berated the Federal Government for what it described as government's deliberate and persistent negligence of education in the country. This was contained in a statement issued by the Vice President Special Duties of the Association, Comrade Ubon Marcus. The apex Nigerian students' body lamented that while students were suffering from the hardship of the lingering ASUU strike all what our leaders could do is waste the much needed tax payers money on the PDP Post Convention Dinner at a time when such resources would have been channelled towards resolving serious issues affecting the citizenry such as the ASUU strike.

Oshiomohole declared winner of Edo guber polls

Incumbent governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has been announced as the winner of the July 14, 2012 guber polls in the state. He was declared winner by INEC's returning officer Prof. Osayuki Oshodi. The ACN candidate won with 4,77,478 votes followed by PDP with a distant 144,235. Below is the number of votes each party amassed at the polls.

Akpabio/Frank Okon: Stalemate, as judge fails to show up

Another stalemate was recorded on Thursday, July 12, 2012 in the case filed by Engr. Frank Okon seeking to unseat Chief Godswill Akpabio as the governor of Akwa Ibom State as the presiding judge failed to show up for the day’s proceedings.
Justice Abdul Kafarati, the presiding judge of Federal High Court 2 is said to have embarked on a seminar abroad alongside the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court. The Federal High Court, Connoisseur learnt will also proceed on a long vacation which will last from July 16th to September 14th, 2012.

Photos: Tukur emerges PDP national chairman


Alhaji Bamanga Tukur has emerged as the new National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, following the withdrawal of 10 other aspirants from the race, NAN reports.
Over 4,500 delegates from 36 states and Federal Capital Territory voted in Abuja on Saturday to affirm his position as the national chairman by voting for Yes or No.
