Boko Haram: Friend weeps as young Major is killed in ambush



The very bitter story of one young and brilliant army Major Erasmus whose life was cut short in a Boko Haram attack, has been told by a friend who in shock cannot bear the news of his buddy’s demise. According to the horrified friend named Raphael Edem, the sad news of Major Eramus’ demise, filtered in yesterday, October 7.Edem, who is an aide to Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, took to his Facebook wall to pour his heart out regarding the irreplaceable loss of his friend and a Nigerian hero in his own right.

Budding actress – Etima Lee defied Nigeria’s present economic recession and treated friends to a luxury birthday bash at twins’ island resort, Marina Calabar. Sources claim that the exclusive event which was strictly by invitation, may have cost the Nollywood sweetheart over a million naira to put together. The event, which held on board a chattered boat had in attendance a handful of family, close friends and associates of the actress. Twins resort where the event held is famed to be the island Mary Slessor took rescued twins to for safety. Ceferin replaces Michel Platini as UEFA President



Aleksander Ceferin has been confirmed as the new UEFA president. The Slovenian beat Dutchman Michael van Praag in the election, by 42 votes to 13. Ceferin replaces Michel Platini in the role after he was handed a four year ban from all football activity in May. Platini addressed the congress in Athens prior to the vote and insisted his conscience was clear.

You have come a long way, tell us how it has been so far. 
I was born in 1936. At that time, the kind of things we are finding now were not there. There was just one tarred road from Aba to Oron. All these present facilities were not there. Even in my secondary school days, there were only about two or three secondary schools in Akwa Ibom State. There were also a few universities then like University of Ibadan and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

DSS arrests Blogger in Akwa Ibom

A blogger, Iroegbu Emenike has reportedly been arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services  (DSS).  The blogger who is from Abia State but based in Uyo, publishes under Abiafacts. According to reports, he was arrested yesterday afternoon by the SSS. He is believed to have published unfavourable articles against the government of Abia State and some key political figures in Akwa Ibom. Meanwhile,  Human Rights Activist, Barr. Inibehe Effiong has called for the immediate release of the blogger. Inibehe Effiong in a press statement on behalf of Coalition of Human Rights Defenders (COHRD) said the Gestapo-style arrest of Emenike erodes his fundamental human right. There is No Rift Between Gov Udom Emmanuel and Sen Godswill Akpabio - Political Adviser

The Special Adviser to Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State on Political and Legislative Affairs, Rt Hon Anietie Sunday Etuk, has dismissed a rumour that there is a rift between Governor Udom Emmanuel and his predecessor, Senator Godswill  Obot Akpabio. Etuk who made the clarifications in a media parley over the weekend in Uyo, said such insinuations by some local tabloids were products of perverted logic dismissing any reports of strained relationship between the duo. He warned Akwa Ibom people against falling victims of such mischief. The special adviser said there was no need for the governor to quarrel with his predecessor as that would not benefit the people of the state.

More specifically, working at Facebook is one plum job, many would go to great lengths to land. According to Forbes, Mark Zuckerberg is worth $54.4 billion. His company which was established in 2004, employs about 3,000 people.  The pay structure at Facebook is indeed mouth-watering, software engineers are paid about $106,521 – $175,597 yearly, data scientists earn between $84,234 – $188,434, while product designers with the company earn a little less than that. Enyimba dig deep to shake off hard-fighting Akwa United



Nigeria Professional Football League champions, Enyimba, were made to work their socks off at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt by Akwa United in a Matchday 33 fixture as they had to turn to second half substitute, Ikechukwu Ibenegbu, to score the winner late in the game to earn a 2-1 win.
Mfon Udoh scored the opening goal before Hassan Babangida netted the equalizer for Akwa United just before the break to set up a finely-poised second half.

Stella Oduah's 28 year old son dies in Abuja Hospital

Former Minister of Aviation and now senator, Stella Oduah, yesterday lost her son. According to family sources, the 28 year old man died after a brief illness. He has been on admission at a private hospital in Abuja for an undisclosed ailment. May his soul rest in peace Amen.

Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo, has said that he is not in a hurry to die but live to complete his assignment for the people of the state. Okorocha made the statement on Thursday while reacting to rumours of his ill health shortly after arriving Sam Mbakwe Airport Owerri, from a foreign trip. Addressing a large crowd that gathered at the airport to welcome him, Okorocha described the rumours of his health condition as `false.’

Air Marshal Nsikak Eduok (Retd) who was pronounced dead by various newspapers is back to live. The prominent Akwa Ibom retired Nigerian Airforce chief was rumoured to be dead since last year, but photos have shown is still alive. Sheriff rejects another judgment sacking him as PDP chair



Disputed National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff has rejected a court judgment sacking him as party chairman. A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court sitting in Kubwa, Abuja, had on Wednesday nullified his hold on the party’s chairmanship and declared his appointment as party chair null and void. But in a statement on Thursday, Sheriff said the judgment did not affect him in any way. He however said he had already appealed the judgment and filed for a stay of execution.

Okezie Ikpeazu: A/Court blasts Okon Abang, voids judgment

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has voided the judgment that sacked Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State from office.  Okezie Ikpeazu The court, in a unanimous decision, a five-man panel of Justices of the appellate court, vacated the June 27 verdict of Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The court held that the controversial Justice Abang erred in law and occasioned a miscarriage of justice against Ikpeazu.

THE INK Newspaper can authoritatively report that the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Investment Barr Emmanuel Enoidem has gotten the backing of Governor Udom Emmanuel and other stakeholders of the state to vie for the position of the National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party which has been zoned to Akwa Ibom State. Barr Enoidem has last evening believed to have resigned from the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council to enable him clinch that position.

Former FIFA President dies



Former FIFA president Joao Havelange has died. He died in Rio de Janeiro at the age of 100. Full names Jean-Marie Faustin Godefroid "João" de, Havelange was born on 8 May 1916. He was a Brazilian lawyer, businessman, and former athlete who served as the 7th President of FIFA, from 1974 to 1998. His tenure as President is the second longest in FIFA's history, behind only that of Jules Rimet. He received the title of Honorary President when leaving office, but resigned in April 2013. He succeeded Stanley Rous and was succeeded by Sepp Blatter.

I am qualified to be Nigeria’s president, says Sheriff

Ali Modu Sheriff, factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says he is qualified to be the president of Nigeria. Speaking on Sunday when he appeared on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, Sheriff said he has paid his dues in politics and can serve in the highest office in the land. He described himself as a highly principled individual, saying he believes in democracy and the rule of law. The former Borno state governor also denied ever promising to give the vice-president’s ticket to anyone.

The Nigerian Army has declared three persons wanted in connection with the latest video of the abducted Chibok girls released by Boko Haram on Sunday. Spokesman for the Army, Colonel Sani Usman, said that the suspects, Ahmed Salkida, (Ambassador) Ahmed U. Bolori and Aisha Wakil, had information on the conditions and the exact location of these girls.
