UNIUYO releases 2012 aptitude test results

The institution recently conducted aptitude test for admission into the varsity for the 2012/2013 academic session. The results of the tests which spanned from 16 – 21 June, 2012 have been released two weeks after. Students are to check their results HERE, with JAMB Reg Number, Access Code and Phone Number as the requirements.

Nigerian music prodigy, Wizkid on Sunday July 1, 2012 at the Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles won the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Award in the category of Best International Act – Africa, scooping the award alongside Ghana’s Sarkodie. The duo defeated Iceprince, Lira, Mokobe, and Camp Mulla to cart home the statuette. Last year, Nigeria’s music Icon, 2face Idibia also tied fellow Nigerian D’banj as winners in the category.

Spain outclass Italy to defend Euro trophy

The 2012 UEFA Euro championship came to a climax tonight in Kiev, Ukraine as World Champions, Spain successfully defended the trophy by defeating 2006 world champions, Italy in what could called a ‘cheap’ final.

Italy who sent Germany home in the semi-final via two goals from Mario Balotelli were beaten by four goals which they failed to reply.

Nigeria’s Lady of Songs, Christy Essien-Igbokwe died on exactly this date, Thursday 30^th June, 2011 in a hospital. It is sad that when Connoisseur visited wikipedia this morning to look at the profile of the departed first PMAN female president, it was not updated. This leaves those who didn’t know Christy to believe that she is still alive. At least those that put it up there should be able to do an update on it.

Kukere crooner Iyanya bounced in Malaysia

Reports reaching Connoisseur.com has it that Iyanya Mbuk who is the Winner of MTN Project Fame West Africa Season 1, and the Singer of the viral hit track "Kukere" has been bounced from entering Malaysia. He was invited to perform at a ‘Celebrities’, a popular club in Malaysia. But on arrival at the Asian country, he was asked by the immigration authorities for his performance permit which he couldn’t provide; hence he was bounced from entering the country.  

LG chairman elect in Akwa Ibom dies

Mr. Linus Ekiriku, the chairman-elect for Oruk Anam Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State died on Friday, 22^nd June 2012 in an undisclosed hospital.

Connoisseur.com learnt that the man who emerged victorious at the just concluded LG polls in the state died after a brief illness.

Since Kolo and his younger brother, Yaya (also a football star who served as his Best man) are Muslims, the marriage took place at a mosque, while the couple later went to the registry to sign the dotted lines.

Happy birthday to legendary ex football star Zinedine Zidane

Today, June 23 is the birthday of ex France national football team captain, Zinedine Zidane. He has won many championships including 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000. He retired from active football in 2006 after leading France to the final of the Germany 2006 World Cup. He is a 3 time World Footballer of the Year Award winner.

President Goodluck Jonathan Friday evening sacked General Andrew Owoye Azazi as the National Security Adviser (NSA). Also relieved of his appointment is the Minister of Defence, Haliru Bello.

Azazi has been replaced by Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd).

Boko Haram: US declares Abubakar Shekau, 2 others terrorists

The United States designated three leaders of the Boko Haram militant group as terrorists Thursday in a bid to stem the violence in Nigeria, which has endured a series of deadly attacks.
The three named by the State Department were Abubakar Shekau, widely believed to lead Boko Haram’s main Islamist cell, Abubakar Adam Kambar and Khalid al-Barnawi.
But the US stopped short of putting the group as a whole on its terror list.
“In the last 18 months, Boko Haram or associated militants have killed more than 1,000 people,” the State Department said in a statement, adding that Shekau was the most visible of the group’s leaders.
