In the name of the Father, The Son and Ghana Must Go – Tony Okoroji writes
Tony Okoroji |
Have you ever asked
yourself why our children do very badly in Maths? Please just talk to the
average young man or woman going to school in these parts. Ask him which
subject gives him or her the biggest challenge. Before the question is out of
your mouth, the answer is thrown at you – ‘Mathematics!’ Most of them are scared
stiff of the stuff. Some believe that Maths is magic and only the likes of
Professor Peller, the master magician, can understand how ‘a plus b’ can be
equal to c.

Meet the Youngest Commissioner in Nigeria
When
he was appointed the Finance commissioner in Cross River State, not a few
eyebrows were raised because of his age and more importantly because he isn’t a
thorough bred politician. But the dynamic young man seem to have a work
portfolio that rivals many of his colleagues in the Cross River State cabinet
who are twice his age and he isn’t hesitant about bringing his wealth of
experience to the table. From Odukpani local government area of Cross River
State, Asuquo Ekpenyong is a graduate of Economics from the University of
Reading, United Kingdom (UK), and holds Masters degree in International Banking
and Financial Services from the same institution.
Those who say I am plotting to kill APC candidate are comedians, says former AKHA Deputy Leader, Aniefiok Dennis
Barr Aniefiok Dennis |
The immediate Past Deputy leader of the Akwa Ibom State House
of Assembly, Barr Aniefiok Dennis has described as comical the recent
allegations by the “All Progressives Congress” that he is plotting to kill her
candidate, Mr. Unyime Ekwere.
Aniefiok
Dennis who is the PDP candidate for Etinan State Constituency in the
forthcoming re-run in the constituency said normally, he wouldn’t have love to
respond to or join issues with such cheap, baseless and comical assassination
of his character but for unsuspecting members of the public who may wish to believe
the concocted information peddled by Etinan “APC” and its agents, he wish to
state very clearly that at no time did he plan either by himself or through a
proxy to assassinate Mr. Unyime Ekwere.

Abak Politics: The Intrigues of Zoning, by Paul Bassey
By Atuekong Paul
Bassey
Zoning or Power Shift
is the mechanism of uniting various people while the political parties are the
vehicle for realizing democracy. Zoning is the art of shifting or sharing
political offices to various geo-political zones or districts in a bid to balance
the political equation.
The rotation of
political offices was designed to stop marginalization by some geo-political
zones or districts to bring a lasting peace and stability in our polity. Party
politics and zoning are two very important elements of any liberal democracy
that no one can brush aside with a wave of hand in a primordial local
government area like Abak.

Usoro Akpanusoh, Chairman AKHA Committee on Appropriation/Finance |
A COMMUNIQUÉ
ON A ONE DAY PUBLIC HEARING ON THE 2016 AKWA IBOM STATE BUDGET ORGANIZED BY THE
AKWA IBOM STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON APPROPRIATIONS AND FINANCE HELD
IN UYO ON FRIDAY JANUARY 8, 2016.
1.0 PREAMBLE
Budgeting for programmes,
projects and commitments by governments has gone beyond mere annual ritual
exercise. It encapsulates fiscal measures, estimates of revenue, expenditure
and implementation strategies. It therefore behooves on government to ensure
that inputs from both formal and informal sectors of the economy are sought;
obtained, collated, evaluated and incorporated into annual budgets. Such
participatory approach does not only make the budget people-oriented but separates
needs from wants in a given polity.
I was forced out of PDP – Otu Ita Toyo
Otu Ita Toyo |
Former Akwa Ibom State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP), Arc. Otu Ita Toyo recently defected to the All Progressives
Congress (APC). In this interview on Planet FM, the man popularly known as ‘Total Chair’ bared his mind on several
important political issues. www.connoisseurng.blogspot.com brings you Excerpts:
Last Friday,
you defected from PDP to APC. How was it?
A
dramatic day I tell you. I don’t even consider the business of producing
governor Akpabio as the highlight in my career as a party administrator. I
think that belongs to the business of bringing back PDP into shape. By the time
I came into the PDP it was in complete shreds. Everybody was fighting against
each other. There was Abuja front, there was Uyo front. I think the most
enduring legacy I want to be remembered for is bringing back that family into
one big moving ship which every family in Akwa Ibom State belonged to. It was a
party like no other, a party which every member had a sense of belonging and
beyond that had a say in what affected him or her.
