Mikel fails to sign John Terry’s court document, as the Chelsea captain is cleared of racial abuse

In the day 3 of the John Terry trial over alleged racial comments against QPR defender, Anton Ferdinand, the former England skipper’s legal team read out a statement prepared for and signed by 17 members of Chelsea’s first-team squad to say they have never heard him use racist language. But Nigerian International, John Obi Mikel who plays alongside Terry in the Chelsea setup did not sign the document. Others who were not signatories were Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka and Alex, Florent Malouda, Gary Cahill and Josh McEachran.

Akpabio/Frank Okon: Stalemate, as judge fails to show up

Another stalemate was recorded on Thursday, July 12, 2012 in the case filed by Engr. Frank Okon seeking to unseat Chief Godswill Akpabio as the governor of Akwa Ibom State as the presiding judge failed to show up for the day’s proceedings.

Justice Abdul Kafarati, the presiding judge of Federal High Court 2 is said to have embarked on a seminar abroad alongside the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court. The Federal High Court, Connoisseur learnt will also proceed on a long vacation which will last from July 16^th to September 14^th, 2012.

The Supreme Court Friday morning sacked Hon. Eseme Eyiboh as member representing Eket Federal Consituency of Akwa Ibom State at House of Representatives.

It could be recalled that Eyiboh in January, 2012 lost at Court of Appeal where Justice Ayo Bada read out a unanimous judgment upholding the victory of Bassey Dan Abia Jnr. as the PDP candidate at the 2011 primaries of the party.

The operational license of Obong University, Obong, Akwa Ibom State has been revoked alongside that of 6 other Universities by the National Universities Commission (NUC). The other affected varsities are Achievers University, Owo; Caritas University, Enugu; Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Osun; Lead City University, Ibadan; Madonna University, Okija, and Tansian University, Umunya.

Akwa United team bus catches fire, team doctor injured

The team bus of Premier League side, Akwa United Thursday morning caught fire while the Uyo-based team was in their way back from Ibadan where they had a mid-week NPL fixture with 3SC which they lost 2-0 to the home team.

According to the team’s goalie, John Dosu who spoke to Connoisseur, the fire caught a part of the bus while it was on motion along Ilesha road.
