It is widely believed that the hallmark of a fine worker is defined by his capacity to execute the task assigned to him. That capacity is not necessarily a product of his educational qualification or the acquired skills of the staff. This is so because many professionals with educational qualifications and even skills fail to meet up with their assigned task because of lack of capacity which encompasses their character, passion and approach to work.

There was no bank robbery in Uyo yesterday, only a cult clash - Police


The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has said there was no bank robbery in Uyo, the state capital on Tuesday. The position of the security agency was made known by the Force’s Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Chukwu Ikechukwu. He said there was a clash between rival cult groups at Abak Road close to where banks are located, stating that the police only stepped in to restore order.

PDP to Hold National Convention on August 12


The National Executive of the Peoples Democratic Party has fixed August 12, 2017, to hold a none-elective national convention in Abuja.

The decision comes after a series of meetings by the various organs of the party since Monday.

At an expanded caucus meeting in Abuja on Monday, Nigeria’s former president, Goodluck Jonathan called on members of the party to focus on rebuilding it ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Uyo High Court dissolves 18-year old marriage over wife’s poor cooking



The marriage that was contracted in July, 1999, was terminated today, as an Uyo High Court dissolves a 18-year-old union between one Nseobong Ukpong and his wife, Mary, over poor cooking by the wife. The Presiding Judge while dissolving the marriage, said there was “no longer any love in the marriage’’.

Police confirms transfer of CP Awunah, SP Julian



The Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, Don Awunah, has been transferred from the state barely seven months after assuming office. Mr. Awunah, the 21st commissioner of police in the state, took over from his predecessor, Muritala Mani, in January.

INEC denies stopping the recall of Melaye




The attention of the Commission has been drawn to some media reports suggesting that the Commission has halted the process of recall of the Senator Representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye. Some of the reports even claim that the Commission was being blackmailed into abandoning the process as a result of the Senate decision to probe the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TEFUND), where the present Chairman of INEC previously served as Executive Secretary.

Human rights activist commends IGP over transfers in AKS command, blasts Awunah, Julian

In a reaction to our earlier post that Uyo people have groaned over the transfer of OC Anti-Robbery, SP Julian Igbudu, human rights activist, Barr. Inibehe Effiong has commended the Inspector General of Police for the decision.
The Lagos based lawyer stated this in a post on his Facebook timeline. He said the Cross River State born Julian was part of the security problems in the state. Read his full post after the cut…

Wamakko, who represented Kware/Wammako federal constituency of Sokoto State, died at the National hospital, Abuja after a brief illness. The spokesman of the House, Abdulrazak Namdas, announced this to the media on Friday.

INEC suspends Dino Melaye’s recall



The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has suspended the recall process of Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye. INEC’s National Commissioner, Adedeji Soyebi explained that the decision was in line with a court ruling.

Pete Edochie’s son, Yul to contest in 2017 Anambra Governorship election



One of Pete Edochie’s sons, Yul, has declared his intention to run for Governor of Anambra State later this year. Yul, who is also an actor like his father, took to his Twitter page to reveal his ambition and upload his campaign poster. He, however, did not disclose the political party he intends to use as a platform. He also stated that Anambra, “needs a new brand of leaders, who will put the masses first.”

PDP fixes October for National Convention, zones presidency to North



The National Convention of the PDP has been slated to hold in October, the national leadership of the party has announced. Towards achieving a seamless convention, each state branch of the party has been directed to submit the names of 30 members that would serve on the convention planning committee.
The Niger State chairman of the party, Alhaji Tanko Beji, disclosed this in Minna Thursday while addressing a stakeholders' meeting where the implication of the Supreme Court verdict was also explained.

Uyo people groan as IGP transfers crime fighter, Julian Onita



A section of Uyo people are groaning over the transfer of a top crime fighter, Julian Onita from the Akwa Ibom State command of the Nigerian Police Force to Kogi State Command by the IGP.
Julian who was promoted last year to the OC Anti-Robbery was affected in the recent routine transfers in the force which was widely reported in the media yesterday.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom state has said they will take part in the November 11, 2017 Local Government Elections in the state. This was contained in a press release by the Senator John James Akpanudoedehe faction of the party. In the press release signed by the Ag. State chairman of the party, Obong Mitchel George, the party urged party faithful and the general public to disregard the earlier press release by the Amadu Attai led exco which stated that the party has withdrawn from the election.

Supreme Court declares Makarfi National Chairman of PDP

Young married woman killed in accident caused by Akwa Ibom taskforce officials



It was a black Friday for the family of a young married woman, Mrs Anwanabasi Enang, who was crushed to death this afternoon by a car on Uyo-Nnung Udoe Road, Ikot Obio Offong, Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. She left behind a husband and two children.
Anwangabasi, a staff with the State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Eket, was said to have gone to Uyo today for a promotional interview. She writhed in pains for hours without help, until she gave up.

It is gathered that some fraudsters who have been using President Muhammadu Buhari's name to defraud people, were arrested in Akwa Ibom state recently. According to a reports, 16 suspects (10 men and 6 women) were arrested and paraded for defrauding unsuspecting victims while pretending to be the Nigerian president. The suspected fraudsters who were caught on June 30,2017, around Atiku Abubakar way in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, were said to have formed a fake group known as "Niger Delta Youths, Women and Security Movement for Buhari”. The suspects were said to have sold several forms bearing that name to unsuspecting members of the public, claiming they were hiring people to become law enforcement officers.

Let me make this abundantly clear right from the outset. I love and respect Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the supreme leader of the Biafran movement, the founder and convener of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) and the man that I have appropiately dubbed as the Lion of the East.
I do not however agree with him on EVERYTHING and neither do I share his views about President Goodluck Jonathan.

Newman's Goal Moves Akwa Utd to 3rd spot



Akwa United cruised to third place on the Nigeria Professional Football League table with a 1-0 victory over Enyimba International at the Godswill Akpabio International stadium in Uyo on Sunday.
In form striker Musa Newman scored the only goal of the crucial encounter in the 15th minute tucking in Ubong Friday's excellent cross.
